16 Years Ago & What I Know For Sure

Sixteen years.  That's how long I have known Tim.  Yesterday was the anniversary of the first time we ever laid eyes on each other.  For #throwbackthursday, I posted this picture on Instagram.

So the story goes....we met, we drank and a few minutes later we thought it would be fun to do a pyramid.  What?  I know, I know, we were so cool.  Wait there's more. After we did our crazy cool pyramid, we started break dancing because, well just because.  Tim did the Worm across the living room floor.  And that was it, I was IN LOVE--I kind of just knew he was the guy for me and that I would marry him.

Three months later I quit my job and moved closer (Pittsburgh to Detroit) to be with him.  Ten months later we got engaged and moved in together.  Then we bought a house, got married, got a dog, had a bunch of kids and lived so much life that sometimes 16 years feels like 160.  But other times?  It feels like just a few minutes.  I look at that crazy cool pyramid picture and I can't believe we were so young and now we're so old.  I can't believe we are so different but so much the same.  It just kind of takes my breath away.  And then I laugh because why the hell did we think a pyramid was such a cool idea?

I look at that picture and remember that night sixteen years ago, and I feel all kinds of grateful that we met and fell in love.  And I fall in love all over again.  Sixteen years together and we are still having fun and being silly and he is still holding me up and making me better and stronger.  Sixteen years together and we still got it, I know that for sure.

We didn't reenact the pyramid to celebrate the anniversary, but I did get Tim to make his YouTube debut (for VEDA #3).  Here we are discussing what makes 16 years work and what we thought of each other on that fateful night so long ago:

Here's what else I know for sure (this week):

  • I can't stop loving the Batman raincoat.
Doesn't he look like he's looking out over the town to see who he needs to save?  Awww, my little superhero, bringing smiles to everyone in town.

  • I'm sad to see Dave Letterman retiring.   I was always more Dave than Jay Leno, for sure.  Now I totally love the Jimmy's and Dave Stewart and Andy Cohen.  I really enjoy late-night TV.  But still, it will be weird with no Dave.  And it makes me feel old.

  • It is seriously fun to see my happy family on a web site other than my own.  My kiddos (and a post I wrote) are up on again this week. The WTE editor described the picture I submitted as "warm and jumbly and a little messy but fun," which I think totally sums us up as a group.  Click here to read about my thoughts on sharing a room.

  • Getting excited about The Avett Brothers concert I'm going to in May.  So much banjo in this song/video, I love it.  Did you know I love the banjo?

What do you know for sure (this week)?  C'mon, we're friends, share what you know.

I am also sad about David Letterman retiring. I don't even watch late-night TV anymore, but I used to, and Dave was everything. I will miss him.
